Keystone’s Sunny News

Alasdair Large has once again won an award, this time for his ‘Cheer Up (the days are getting longer)’, which won a silver award in the premium beer category at the Society of Independent Brewers South West Beer Completion. This seasonal beer came second out of over 50 beers. Cheer Up, available after the winter solstice, is tawny in colour, malty to start with bitterness and hops coming through in the finish from the late addition of fuggles hops in the cask. Keystone have extended the availability of this beer until the summer solstice (21st June), when they days wont be getting longer any more!

Alasdair Large of Keystone Brewery says “we are delighted to win another award for our beer in only our second year of brewing, the addition of English grown fuggles hops into the cask gives it a unique flavour which has already proved popular in pubs around the region”

The extension of this brew will not effect the launch of our new beer ‘Solar Brew’ brewed using water heated by the solar panels on the roof of the brewery and available from the 14th May.

Keystone brewery was set up in July 06 by husband and wife team Alasdair and Charlie Large, taking the beautiful Fonthill arch as inspiration for the name. Alasdair is brewing traditional southern English, award winning, beers with a local and sustainable ethos. Keystone beers are made using local barley, English hops, and water from our local aquifer. The Brewing process is assisted by hot water supplied by the five different solar water heating panels on the brewery roof.

Hugh Synge of soltrac.co.uk, organisers of the solar panel water heating trial on the brewery roof, says ”it will be great to taste the fruits of our labour and prove the effectiveness of our solar water heating”

Keystone is successfully selling five regular beers and four seasonal beers into many of the regions pubs as well as direct from the brewery. The Brewery is usually open on a Monday or Friday for off sales or a quick tour of the brew house. Call first to avoid disappointment. 01747 820426

Spring growth

The Barley being grown exclusively for Keystone Brewery in the fields around the brewery is growing well. Take a look at the photos (right).

All the wonderful spring sun that we've had during February has also been keeping our solar water heating trials bubbling away. The 2250 litre tank heated by our 6 solar panels is heating the water to a sufficient temperature to use in the brewery to wash casks and clean up after brewing. For more information go to www.soltrac.com .

If you'd like to arrange a brewery tour for your pub or group then we can organise a great evening of beer tasting with snacks and a bit of brewery insight too. Beer design courses are also available.
